Good to know
The difficulty rating describes the technical riding — not how physically demanding the route is. Check the individual route description for distance, climbing and steepness before choosing your ride.

EASY
Relaxed exploring
Suitable for anyone comfortable riding a bicycle. Perfect for discovering Akureyri and the surrounding countryside.
Routes may include streets, cycle paths, paved roads, gravel roads and wide, easy trails.
What to expect:
Roads • cycle paths • gravel roads • wide trails • straightforward riding
What you will not do:
Jumps • technical singletrack • steep technical sections • sudden direction changes

MODERATE
A little more adventure
For riders with some experience riding trails or mountain bikes.
These routes take you further into the landscape around Akureyri, including areas such as the valley above town, Fálkafell viewpoint and the main trails through Kjarnaskógur forest.
What to expect:
Narrower trails • easy singletrack • rougher surfaces • short steep sections • more varied terrain
You should be confident controlling a bike on uneven trails and changing terrain.

HARD
For experienced mountain bikers
Our Hard routes open up some of the area's more technical riding, including sections of Hlíðarfjall Bike Park, singletrack in Glerárdalur valley, trails around Fálkafell and Gamli huts, and technical trails in Kjarnaskógur forest.
What to expect:
Narrow singletrack • rocks • mud • jumps • steep sections • rough terrain • sudden changes of direction
These routes are only suitable for experienced mountain bikers.
Riders should be confident using gears and motor assistance together, using a dropper post and changing riding position for different terrain.
You should also be able to deal with basic trailside problems such as changing an inner tube or repairing a broken chain. Carrying a repair kit is essential.
