Good to know

The difficulty rating describes the technical riding — not how physically demanding the route is. Check the individual route description for distance, climbing and steepness before choosing your ride.

MODERATE

A little more adventure

For riders with some experience riding trails or mountain bikes.

These routes take you further into the landscape around Akureyri, including areas such as the valley above town, Fálkafell viewpoint and the main trails through Kjarnaskógur forest.

What to expect:

Narrower trails • easy singletrack • rougher surfaces • short steep sections • more varied terrain

You should be confident controlling a bike on uneven trails and changing terrain.

HARD

For experienced mountain bikers

Our Hard routes open up some of the area's more technical riding, including sections of Hlíðarfjall Bike Park, singletrack in Glerárdalur valley, trails around Fálkafell and Gamli huts, and technical trails in Kjarnaskógur forest.

What to expect:

Narrow singletrack • rocks • mud • jumps • steep sections • rough terrain • sudden changes of direction

These routes are only suitable for experienced mountain bikers.

Riders should be confident using gears and motor assistance together, using a dropper post and changing riding position for different terrain.

You should also be able to deal with basic trailside problems such as changing an inner tube or repairing a broken chain. Carrying a repair kit is essential.

Meet Your Bike

Polygon Siskiu T6E

A capable full-suspension electric mountain bike designed for everything from relaxed exploring to proper trail riding.

The electric motor assists while you pedal — it does not ride the bike for you. You still pedal and control the bike just like a conventional bicycle, but the motor gives you extra power when you need it.

Great for: Town, countryside, gravel roads, forest trails, mountain-bike trails

Not suitable for: Enduro or downhill riding
